Being late to court can have serious consequences. We know that some judges will work with you but please, keep in mind, that some won't.

We have seen instances when attorneys were late less than 5 minutes and the case got dismissed. Don't let that happen to you.

Check your car regularly and always allow for some extra time. It's a good idea to plan for the worst case scenario.  If you drive a lot, we strongly encourage you to utilize your smart phone. You paid a lot of money for it, put it to work!

Here are some handy apps that can help you avoid traffic jams, road closures, and other inconveniences. Both are readily available for both Android and iOS devices.

WAZE

Waze is an app that brings you real-time traffic updates from fellow drivers. It helps to guide you through the shortest route possible. This is one of the features that sets Waze apart - it helps you discover shortcuts you didn't know existed.

Because Waze is powered by a community of over 100 million users, you get the latest updates including construction, police activity, and even potholes to avoid.

Waze uses all the data to help you plan your trip and is fairly accurate in predicting arrival time.

GOOGLE MAPS

Don't want to download yet another app? Use Google Maps! Like Waze, it is fairly accurate in estimating your time of arrival. It tends to have a fairly accurate reporting that will point out the road construction and traffic delays. It's a good place to start and if you find you need more real-time information on your routes, you can add Waze to your toolbox.

Google Maps is a wonderful tool to help you find the way to a new place. You can switch to the satellite view (press the little diamond icon in the upper right corner) to see the terrain and identify landmarks. You can also utilize the street view of your destination. Sometimes, knowing what the building looks like saves you a lot of searching.

Those two apps are just examples of tools that can help you plan your trip and never be late again. In some states, the Department of Transportation will offer an app that will alert you in case of road closures, give you accurate weather conditions, and even inform you of the future construction projects.

If you have never used any apps before, we strongly recommend you test them out on a trip with relatively low stakes, not on your way to court. Find out whether the app makes sense to you, is easy to use, and the instructions are clear.

We always like to hear from you. If you have any tips, concerns, or ideas that help you and your Docketly colleagues get to court on time, please let us know.
